Write this to Philadelphia, to the Angel of the church. The Holy, the True—David's key in his hand, opening doors no one can lock, locking doors no one can open—speaks: I see what you've done. Now see what I've done. I've opened a door before you that no one can slam shut. You don't have much strength, I know that; you used what you had to keep my Word. You didn't deny me when times were rough. (Rev 3:7-8 MSG)
In the Revelation, Messiah gives rebukes, warnings, commands for repentance and instructions for correction to all the churches except one, the church of Philadelphia. While the other churches might have done some things right, Yeshua said he had some things against them. But not the church of Philadelphia; He only had words of encouragement and promise for that church. Why? What was it about this church that evoked such favor from the King of Kings?
According to this Scripture, they confessed their weakness and used whatever strength they had for keeping His Word. No matter how grave the circumstances appeared, they refused to give up on the promises of YHWH. As a result, Yeshua granted this church His ultimate reward for their consistent, trusting obedience to Him, the Word of YHWH: He opened to them doors of opportunity—doors to Himself, His ways, HIS strength—ensuring their absolute victory in fulfilling Abba-YHWH’s plan for their lives.
Messiah’s promise of “opened doors” is available to us all if we follow this church’s example. And there’s NOTHING that can close these doors off to us except, of course, our own poor choices by following the desires of our sinful nature instead of the Word of YHWH.
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life WILL NOT inherit the Kingdom of God. (Gal 5:19-21 NLT)
