HIDDEN MANNA~Daily Bites: Lord of the Sabbath

July 22

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations and then the end will come  … pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath…”   (Matt 25:14-25  NKJV)

If this “certain day” (Heb 4:6-11), the Sabbath, was to no longer exist after Yeshua’s work was “finished” (John 19:30), would He have even given this future instruction?  If our Messiah and Great “Rabbi” (John 1:38) was about to do away with YHWH’s fourth Commandment to keep the Sabbath day holy, wouldn’t He (who IS the LORD of the Sabbath) have said so?  Wouldn’t He have foretold this major change to YHWH’s Torah (the only Word of God given at the time) even once?

Matthew 5:17-19 from the Complete Jewish Bible reads:

"Don't think that I have come to abolish the Torah or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete. Yes indeed! I tell you that until heaven and earth pass away, not so much as a yud or a stroke [marks in Hebrew alphabet] will pass from the Torah -- not until everything that must happen has happened. So whoever disobeys the least of these mitzvot [laws YHWH gave Moses for His people] and TEACHES OTHERS TO DO SO will be called the least in the Kingdom of Heaven. But whoever obeys them and so teaches will be called great in the Kingdom of Heaven. [Inserts mine.]  Emphasis mine.

There is something Yeshua DID do, though, regarding Abba-YHWH’s command to keep this day holy; He abolished MAN’S religious bondage imposed upon it:

Now He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.  And behold, there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bent over and could in no way raise herself up. But when Jesus saw her, He called her to Him and said to her, "Woman, you are loosed from your infirmity." And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

But the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath; and he said to the crowd, "There are six days on which men ought to work; therefore come and be healed on them, and not on the Sabbath day."

The Lord then answered him and said, "Hypocrite! Does not each one of you on the Sabbath loose his ox or donkey from the stall, and lead it away to water it? So ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?" And when He said these things, all His adversaries were put to shame…  (Luke 13:10-17)

Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to Him, "Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?" …And He said to them, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath…

“Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”   (Mark 22:23-28 NKJV)
