HIDDEN MANNA~Daily Bites: Martha's Cares

June 27

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.  And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.  But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not CARE that my sister hath left me to serve alone?   Bid her therefore that she help me.

And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art CAREFUL and troubled about many things:  But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.   (Luke 10:38-41 KJV) Emphasis mine.

I find the above wordplay using “care” and “careful” very interesting in this translation of YHWH’s Word.  For there are times, like Martha, we can let the problems of the day overburden us, making us anxious and impatient as a result.  No doubt Martha used the word “care” to evoke compassion from Yeshua for her troubles, hoping He would intervene and send help.  But, as most of us have learned in our own walk with Him, the Messiah’s way of helping her was not what she expected.  He wanted Martha to see how she was TOO FULL of care, instead, and that her cares were actually causing her to be distracted AWAY from resting at His feet.

Abba-YHWH, in obedience to Your Word, we now cast all our cares upon you; all our worries, troubles, and burdens we now obediently place in Your all-mighty, protecting and life-molding hands.  For we know You care about them all, no matter how great or small, and we trust in You to cause all these things somehow work together for our good in the end.  For you, alone, are YHWH-Shalom, our Elohim of Nothing Missing, Nothing Broken.  This is the day YOU have made and by the power of Your Set-Apart Spirit we shall walk in it with gladness, thanksgiving, and praise for all You do—for all the ways You care for us—in the Name of Yeshua Ha’ Mashiach, Messiah Jesus of Nazareth, amen.

…The Lord is near!  Don’t worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, WITH THANKSGIVING.  Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and mind safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua.   (Phil 4:4-7  CJB.) Emphasis mine.
