Skate Along A Bright Surface

Skate Along A Bright Surface

By Richard Moss MD

You have painted the perfect, unblemished scene,

Yes, you were the unchallenged queen.

You used your eyes as weapons of war,

To you, allegiance and fidelity, I swore.

Your face, black hair, and impeccable style,

One look overwhelmed, you destroyed me with a smile.

In mere moments, my soul had no purpose,

I could manage for a time and skate along a bright surface.

The earth shook when our eyes met,

I submitted to your power but saw the threat.

A sharp sword flew from your dark eyes,

Even as the angels retreated to the skies.

I felt the armies of my soul bow in praise,

You laughed in triumph and pierced me with your gaze.

In mere moments, my soul had no purpose,

I could manage for a time and skate along a bright surface.

Your skin was bright as a galaxy,

Your flaming touch inspired jealousy.

I lost my soul in an empire of fear,

In your absence, the pain I could not bear.

Your shape, your voice, was a deadly elixir,

I fought to breathe, like a humble villager.

In mere moments, my soul had no purpose,

I could manage for a time and skate along a bright surface.

I stand before the temple of your lies,

I resisted even the treachery of your eyes.

The stars screamed their agony,

Your every word a tragedy.

I now saw the monarch of your mind,

I looked to God, my eyes no longer blind.

In mere moments, my soul had no purpose,

I could manage for a time and skate along a bright surface.

Can I deliver myself from my broken soul,

I have fallen before you like a lump of coal.

But your spell no longer ensnares me in its grip,

Your beauty I move beyond as you singe your lip.

Your loyal slave has moved from the prison of your desire,

I will not attend the funeral of your squire.

In mere moments, my soul had no purpose,

I could manage for a time and skate along a bright surface.

You held me spellbound like a toy,

To be with you was mystical joy.

But I was drowning in the waters surrounding my soul,

Delirious, I could no longer play the role.

Free me, O Lord, from foul moods and despair,

Deliver me to freedom in the sunlit air.

In mere moments, my soul had no purpose,

I could manage for a time and skate along a bright surface.
